01About this policy
This policy explains how Runners Jam ("Runners Jam", "we", "us", "our") handles personal information when you visit runnersjam.com.au, buy from us, sign up for club events, or use the Runners Jam app at app.runnersjam.com.au (the "App").
We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Where you are in Europe or the UK, we also respect the rights you have under the GDPR (see Your rights & choices).
02Information we collect
When you visit our website
We automatically collect some information about your device, including your web browser, IP address, time zone and some of the cookies on your device. As you browse, we also collect information about the pages you view, what websites or search terms referred you to us, and how you interact with the site. We call this "Device Information". It is collected using cookies, log files, web beacons, tags and pixels (see Cookies & advertising).
When you buy from us or register for an event
We collect your name, billing and delivery address, email address, phone number and payment information, plus any details an event registration asks for. Payments are handled by our payment provider: we never store your full card details.
When you create a Runners Jam App account
- Your name, email address and an optional profile photo.
- Your password, which is stored in encrypted (hashed) form. No one at Runners Jam can read it.
When you use the App
- Training information: your race goals, goal times, running level, training plan, and the workouts you schedule or build.
- Runs and workouts you record: distance, time, pace, heart rate, cadence, elevation, GPS route, splits and laps, from files you upload (such as GPX or CSV), runs recorded with your phone in the App, or a connected service.
- Things you add: notes, feeling and effort ratings, gym sessions, personal bests, Feed posts, comments and photos.
- Club and game activity: event sign-ups, sprint challenge results and game progress.
- Settings and usage: your app preferences (such as theme and skin), and basic usage information (such as when you last signed in and which features you use) so we can keep the App running well.
From services you choose to connect
If you connect Garmin Connect, or another training platform such as intervals.icu, we receive the information described in Garmin Connect below, only with your permission and only from the date you connect.
Heart rate and other health and fitness measurements can be "sensitive information" under Australian privacy law. We only collect them with your consent, which you give by uploading them or by connecting a service and choosing to share them, and we only use them for the purposes in this policy.
03How we use your information
Website, shop and events
- To process orders and event registrations, arrange delivery and send confirmations and invoices.
- To communicate with you, and, where you have agreed, to send you club news and offers. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- To screen orders for possible risk or fraud.
- To understand how people use our site so we can improve it, for example with Google Analytics.
The Runners Jam App
- To run your account and keep your information in sync across your devices.
- To build and adjust your training plan and show your calendar, runs, stats, personal bests and progress.
- To send planned workouts to your Garmin watch, if you ask us to.
- To show your activity to other club members where you choose to share it (for example Feed posts and sprint results).
- To send account emails, such as confirming your email address or resetting your password.
- To keep the App secure and working, fix problems, and understand which features members use.
Your health and fitness data is used only to provide App features to you. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or share it with advertisers.
04Artificial intelligence (AI)
Some features of the App use artificial intelligence to help you. We want you to know exactly what that involves.
Which features use AI
- Training plan generation: creates a personalised plan from your race date, goal and running level.
- Run analysis: writes a plain-English, coach-style summary of a run you upload or import.
- Coaching tips: short tips based on your upcoming sessions.
What is sent, and to whom
To produce these, the App sends only the details each feature needs to Google's Gemini AI service. That includes your first name, running level, race goal and date, upcoming sessions, and for run analysis the run's figures, such as distance, pace, heart rate, cadence, elevation and splits. We do not send your email address or password. Gemini returns the plan, summary or tip, which we store in your account.
Your consent and choices
- Garmin data is never sent to an AI service unless you opt in. We ask for your consent in the App before any Garmin-sourced data is used by an AI feature.
- You can withdraw that consent at any time in your profile settings. AI features using Garmin data then stop, and the rest of the App keeps working.
- You can always choose not to use AI features at all, for example by building your own plan.
No AI training
Runners Jam does not use your data, or any data from Garmin, to train, test or improve any AI model, and we do not keep it for that purpose. We use Google's service under terms that do not allow Google to use the data we send to train its models.
AI-generated plans and feedback are general guidance only, not medical advice. Listen to your body and see a health professional if you have concerns.
05Garmin Connect
Connecting your Garmin account is optional. If you choose to connect, you sign in on Garmin's own website and choose which permissions to give us. We never see or store your Garmin username or password.
What we receive from Garmin (if you allow it)
- Activities: type, date and time, distance, duration, pace and speed, heart rate, cadence, elevation, GPS route, laps and the Garmin device model.
- Health data: metrics such as VO2 max, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, sleep and stress, if you grant health permissions.
We only receive data recorded from the date you connect onward.
What we send to Garmin
Planned workouts and their scheduled dates (and, if you use them, running courses), so they appear on your Garmin watch and in Garmin Connect.
Changing or ending the connection
- Disconnect any time in the App, or in Garmin Connect under your account's connected apps settings.
- You can also change which permissions you share in Garmin Connect at any time. We are notified and stop receiving that data.
- When you disconnect, we stop receiving Garmin data straight away. You can ask us to delete the Garmin data we already hold (see Your rights & choices).
Garmin's handling of your information is covered by Garmin's own privacy policy. Garmin and Garmin Connect are trademarks of Garmin Ltd. or its subsidiaries.
08Storage & security
Our website and App data are stored on a secured server hosted in Australia by our web hosting provider. All connections to our website and App are encrypted (HTTPS), passwords are stored hashed, and access to member data is limited to the people who need it to run the club.
Some of the service providers listed in section 06 are located overseas, including in the United States, so your information may be stored or processed outside Australia. We only use providers that have their own privacy and security protections in place.
No system is completely secure. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required by law.
09Data retention
- App data is kept while your account is open and deleted when you delete your account.
- Garmin data is kept while you are connected and deleted when you delete your account, or on request after you disconnect.
- Order records are kept for as long as we need them for our records and tax obligations, unless you ask us to delete information we are not required to keep.
10Your rights & choices
- Access and correction: you can view and update most of your information in the App. Email us for anything else.
- Export: download a copy of your App data, including Garmin-sourced data, as a spreadsheet (CSV) file from Edit profile › Garmin › Download my data, or email info@runnersjam.com.au and we'll send it to you.
- Deletion: you can ask us to delete your account and data at any time by emailing info@runnersjam.com.au.
- Garmin: disconnect in the App or in Garmin Connect, and ask us to delete Garmin data we hold.
- AI: opt in or out of AI features using Garmin data, and withdraw your consent at any time, in your profile settings.
- Marketing: unsubscribe using the link in any marketing email.
If you are in Europe or the UK, you also have the right to access, correct, move or erase your personal information, and to object to or restrict how we use it. Contact us to exercise these rights.
Complaints: if you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first and we will try to fix it. If you are still not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
11Links to other websites
Our website and App link to other sites, such as Garmin, YouTube and event partners. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies.
12Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example when we add new App features or when the law changes. We will update the date at the top of this page, and tell App members about significant changes in the App or by email.
